CHAIRPERSON’S UPDATE
As we reach the latter part of 2025, I’d like to share what has been a continued period of both fundraising and outreach by Dorcas ACTS. We held a pop-up stall at Aspley Hypermarket on 9th August from 9.30am to 3pm.
The primary focus was to lift the awareness of Dorcas Acts within the community. Our new pull up sign was on display. Three authors involved with Aspley Uniting Church were also on hand during various times to sell their books with all proceeds donated
to Dorcas ACTS.
Another pop-up stall is scheduled to be held at the Hypermarket outside Coles on 14th February 2026. Building on a wide range of fundraising activities detailed in this
newsletter promises to be an exciting one, including your chance to head to the Centre of Australia for a once in a lifetime funding opportunity.
Warm regards,
Tom Freeman, Secretary, Dorcas ACTS
(Chris Wright, our chairman is on leave this month)

SAUSAGE SIZZLES
Another Bunnings Sausage Sizzle is scheduled for 31st January, 2026, at Carseldine. Being mid summer (and peak DIY season coinciding with Australia Day weekend) the challenge is on to top the $1,650 raised at our last sausage sizzle in June.
DINNER AT GRILL’D RAISES $540 for Dorcas ACTS
The Aspley Uniting Church 4pm service recently held their monthly post-service dinner at Grill’d Chermside, with funds raised going to support Dorcas ACTS.
Members from both the morning and afternoon services joined together, along with a number of family members, making it a warm and social evening. The dinner was a fantastic success, with 44 meals purchased.
The consensus among those attending was clear, sharing a meal out together was not only enjoyable, but a great way to support a good cause. Many have suggested making this dinner an annual tradition, and we look forward to gathering again next year.
Of the three competing charities, the restaurant have informed us that we came in at second place with the tokens, giving us an additional $100. The dinner has raised $440 profit, so this month of having the Dorcas ACTS name up front in the restaurant plus the wonderful people who attended the dinner should give us $540 towards our funds.
DONATIONS & PARTNERSHIP
The work that Dorcas ACTS is able to achieve is only possible through the support of people like yourselves. The congregation at AUC make personal gifts to Dorcas ACTS throughout the year as well as on an annual basis. These gifts are supported by good citizens like you, beyond thecongregation. We are delighted that so many of you have continued to be our partners. If you would like to partner with us in supporting the charitable objectives of our organisation please visit our website at www.dorcas.org.au for more details on how you may be able to contribute either financially or by supporting our events.
WHAT WE HAVE DONE OVER THE PAST QUARTER
It has been good that, over the past three months, we have been able to make $10,500 dollars in cash grants, either directly to the bank accounts of victims or in provision of meals to homeless people living in poverty anywhere that we are able to locate them across our nation. Most were hit by floods and fires or experienced domestic violence and elder abuse or are refugees who arrive here with nothing or have crisis situations that put them well below the poverty line.
We know that we can and should help more. We intend to try.
WALK IN THE SPIRIT – LAUNCHING SOON
The Walk in the Spirit is an 11km walk around Uluru that will raise funds for the Crisis Charity Dorcas ACTS. Local neighbourhood walks will also be organised across the community. The event will be held on the 5th October, 2026 to celebrate Everald Compton’s 95th birthday. Register your interest at www.spiritwalker.org.au.
