CHAIRPERSON’S UPDATE
As we reach the midpoint of 2025, I’d like to share what has been a season of renewal and momentum for Dorcas ACTS. Since being appointed Chairperson on 1 January, it has been a privilege to work alongside our committed board and volunteers to continue our mission—bringing rapid, compassionate financial help to people in
crisis.
We are delighted to announce Everald Compton, our immediate past Chairperson, as Patron of Dorcas ACTS. Everald’s leadership and tireless service have laid a strong foundation for the future.
We warmly welcome three new board members: Rosemary Peters, Varai Makura-Ncomanzi, and Carma Hambley, who all bring energy, insight, and deep commitment to our mission. We also thank Shirley Kuhbauch for her dedicated service, following her retirement in March.
This year, the board developed a new operating plan to build capability in fundraising and outreach. Each board member now leads a key area—marketing, grants, events, operations, or membership—to strengthen governance and impact.
We also ran a marketing workshop to refine our communications. This includes website updates, new signage, a refreshed newsletter format, and updated promotional materials to boost awareness and fundraising. Together, we are helping those who need it most. In memory of the late Pope Francis, we reflect on the words of St. Francis of Assisi: “For it is in giving that we receive.”
