The Newsletter of Dorcas ACTS

WE HAVE CHANGED OUR NAME. THE GOOD NEWS IS, IT IS NOW ‘DORCAS ACTS’

The reason for the change is that there are several thousand charities on the Internet world wide who call themselves ACTS. This means people have problems finding us on the web. So, we have added the word DORCAS to our title. In the book of ACTS in the New Testament of our bibles, there is an important person whose life was dedicated to serving people.

Her name was DORCAS and she opened her home to everyone who was in trouble in a most selfless manner. St Peter was a huge admirer of her personal mission to the needs of humanity. We are proud to identify with her and we invite you to visit our new DORCAS ACTS website https://dorcas.org.au/

DORCAS ACTS SUNDAY

Every year in June, we observe DORCAS ACTS SUNDAY and report to the congregation of the Aspley Uniting Church (AUC) about how we have served the community.

The congregation at AUC make personal gifts to
DORCAS ACTS on this day, over and above their regular Sunday offerings, and often during the year as well. Beyond the congregation these gifts are supported by good citizens like you, who have supported our various fundraising activities, for example by attending launches of Everald Compton’s books and especially the walk that he did from Linville to Moore on his 90th Birthday.

We are delighted that so many of you have continued to be our partners. If you would like to become involved with us once more, we invite you to click this link for our new website, https://dorcas.org.au/

WHAT WE HAVE DONE OVER THE PAST YEAR

We are delighted that, over the past twelve months, we have been able to provide $60,500 in cash grants.  These grants have been paid either directly to the bank accounts of victims or in provision of meals to homeless people living in poverty anywhere that we are able to locate them across our nation. Most were hit by floods and fires or experienced domestic violence and elder abuse or are refugees who arrive here with nothing or have crisis situations that put them well below the poverty line.

We know that we can and should help more.

We intend to try.

WALLY REA

After 14 years of dedicated service, Wally has retired as Honorary Secretary of Dorcas ACTS. He put in countless hours finding people in need and organising financial grants for them. We have presented Wally with a framed certificate recording his splendid service. Tom Freeman has accepted our invitation to replace Wally.

EVERALD’S NEW BOOK

Our next fundraising function will be a lunch at the ‘Royal on the Park’ at Noon on Friday 22 November to launch WALKING WITH THE MAN. More details later. The Hotel is launching an EVERALD BURGER on its menu that day.

NIL EXPENSES

Once again, we have achieved a year with no expenses. Our entire team are volunteers and we have generous supporters who pay any small bills. So you can be assured that 100% of your gifts go to people in need.

THANKS

We are hugely grateful for your support and we look forward to your continued involvement.

Also, please let us know whenever you meet someone in real strife who needs our help.
